PEARS (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization) is an intermediate pediatric emergency care course by Heart & Stroke Foundation. It equips healthcare providers to recognize early signs of respiratory distress, shock, and cardiac arrest in infants and children, and apply life-saving stabilization interventions. It bridges the gap between BLS and PALS.
PEARS is an intermediate course for providers who occasionally manage pediatric emergencies, focusing on early recognition and stabilization before transfer to advanced care. PALS is a comprehensive advanced course for providers who regularly manage complex pediatric cardiac and respiratory emergencies. If you work in a pediatric unit, ED, or ICU, PALS may be more appropriate.
PEARS is ideal for nurses, paramedics, school medical staff, family physicians, clinic staff, and healthcare professionals working in clinics, schools, or rural facilities who occasionally encounter pediatric emergencies but do not require the full PALS certification.
Yes. A current Heart & Stroke Foundation BLS Provider Certificate is required before enrolling in PEARS. Unlike PALS, no precourse self-assessment is required — just bring your valid BLS card.
