First Aid and CPR Course in Mississauga – FAQs

Everything you need to know before enrolling in our first aid and CPR course in Mississauga.

Basic First Aid (BFA) is a 1-day course for foundational skills. Intermediate First Aid (IFA), however, is a comprehensive 2-day course with 50% more hands-on practice, covering a wider range of workplace emergencies including CPR Level C. Because it meets higher Ontario occupational requirements, IFA is recommended for most workplaces.

Yes. CHCPTI's first aid and CPR course in Mississauga is fully WSIB and CSA compliant, so it meets all Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requirements for workplace first aiders. In addition, the certificate is recognized by employers across Ontario and Canada.

Your certificate is valid for 3 years. Because these are perishable life-saving skills, Heart & Stroke also recommends an annual CPR/AED refresher to maintain competency between recertifications.

CPR Level A covers adult CPR and AED use. Level C, on the other hand, includes all Level A content plus CPR and AED for children and infants, along with choking management for all age groups. For this reason, Level C is recommended for healthcare workers, parents, teachers, and childcare providers.

No prior training is required. Both the Basic and Intermediate options are open to anyone. However, for the 1-day Intermediate recertification, you'll need a current Heart & Stroke First Aid certificate.

Yes. CPR/AED skills are integrated into every first aid and CPR course we run. For example, the Basic course includes CPR Level A (adult), while the Intermediate course includes CPR Level C (adult, child, and infant), plus AED training and choking management for all age groups.
