Bloodborne Pathogens
How often do I need to renew bloodborne pathogens training?
Most workplaces require retraining annually (every 12 months), and you should keep your completion certificate for proof.
What should I do immediately if blood or bodily fluids contact my skin or eyes/mouth?
Remove contaminated PPE, wash exposed skin with soap and water, rinse eyes/nose/mouth with plenty of water, and report the incident immediately per your facility protocol.
Does an exposure mean I will definitely become infected?
No. Exposure does not always lead to infection—following proper procedures and getting prompt evaluation can greatly reduce risk.
What is an Exposure Control Plan (ECP), and why does it matter?
An ECP is your workplace’s plan for preventing exposure and managing incidents (PPE rules, sharps disposal, cleanup steps, reporting, follow-up care, and recordkeeping).
Why is reporting right away so important?
Some preventive treatments work best when started quickly (within hours), and early reporting also ensures proper documentation and follow-up testing if required.
